Ari Schneider


Ari Schneider is an American journalist and rock climber known for his articles about outdoor sports, adventure, culture, and other topics.

Early Life and Education

Schneider grew up in Rutland, VT. He attended high school at Killington Mountain School where he trained to be a competitive freestyle skier. In college, he switched his athletic focus from skiing to rock climbing.
Schneider has a Bachelor's in Political Science from Tufts University and a Master's in Journalism from New York University.

Journalism

As a freelance writer, Schneider has written for major publications including The New York Times, Climbing Magazine, Rock & Ice, Outside, UKClimbing, and Insider. He is a columnist at Roam Media.

Awards

Schneider's essay "Climbing Alone" won the best essay in the "Thrill" category at the 2019 ROAM Awards. This was the inaugural adventure media contest hosted by Roam Media. Schneider's essay told the story of him attempting a new climb alone in the Cirque of the Towers, Wyoming. The award earned him a column at roammedia.com and a cash prize.

Shaded by Stone

Schneider's 2019 memoir, Shaded by Stone, follows rock climbing adventures in Utah, British Columbia, California and Nevada. Climbing stories are used as a mode to discuss themes of self-realization and struggles with lows in life.
