Anthony's Pier 4

Anthony's Pier 4 was a restaurant on the South Boston waterfront opened in 1963 by restaurateur Anthony Athanas. By the early 1980s, the restaurant was grossing about $12 million annually, making it one of the highest-grossing restaurants in the United States. The restaurant closed in 2013, and was scheduled to be the site of a condominium complex.
In 1982, the parking lot was the location of the murders of Brian Halloran and Michael Donahue by Whitey Bulger and another associate of the Winter Hill Gang. This murder was later recreated for a scene in the 2015 film Black Mass.
In the Blizzard of 1978 the Peter Stuyvesant, a former New York City riverboat built in 1927, broke free, listed and sank in Boston Harbor. It was purchased by Anthony's Pier 4 in 1963, functioned as a floating function hall and waiting area for restaurant patrons. The remains of the vessel were left in the harbor beside the pier until February 2017, when it was recovered and scrapped.
