Anne Helen Petersen


Anne Helen Petersen is an American writer and journalist based in Missoula, Montana. She works as a Senior Culture Writer for Buzzfeed.
Petersen earned a PhD in media studies from the University of Texas. While working as a visiting professor, Petersen began writing about popular culture topics for online news and entertainment sites and found that she enjoyed non-academic writing. She began writing full-time for Buzzfeed in May 2014, after struggling to find academic work. In 2014 Petersen authored her first book, the non-fiction Scandals of Classic Hollywood.
In 2017 Petersen wrote a controversial article for Buzzfeed, mocking actor Armie Hammer's career from 2007 to 2017. The article provoked pointed criticism and backlash from Hammer, film industry figures, and other journalists. Subsequently, Petersen claimed to have received online harassment.
