Andy Hamilton (pop musician)


Andy Hamilton is a British tenor saxophonist who has played with Duran Duran, Wham!, Elton John, Pet Shop Boys, Tina Turner, George Michael, Paul McCartney, Radiohead, Bon Jovi and David Bowie.
After spending the 1970s playing with visiting soul artistes in the UK and US, he toured extensively with Dexy's Midnight Runners in the US and Europe. He recorded an album V Deep with the Boomtown Rats where he met Tony Visconti; later playing on several Visconti productions. He played at Live Aid with the Boomtown Rats. Hamilton recorded horns on the 12" of "Planet Earth" by Duran Duran beginning a relationship with the band that would last over 20 years. He played a sax solo on their hit 'Rio". He toured extensively with Duran Duran during the 1980s and during their reunion in 2003. Hamilton played on many of the Wham! records and subsequently with George Michael, contributing the sax solo on "Cowboys and Angels" from the album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1. He toured with Michael on the 'Faith', 'Cover To Cover' and '25 Live' tours. Hamilton has also played and recorded with Radiohead, Judie Tzuke, Nina Hagen, Altered Images, Tina Turner, and Paul McCartney.
Andy Hamilton has composed theme and incidental music for television and film in both the US and the UK. He has a songwriting partnership with guitarist Phil Palmer, and they won the UK Songwriting Contest in 2015 with the song "Everything's Great All The Time". As well as saxophones, Hamilton also plays keyboards and EWI on the George Michael Live in Australia tour.
