Andre Gianfagna

Andre Gianfagna is an Australian rules football umpire officiating as a field umpire in the Australian Football League. He was formerly AFL-listed as a player at Melbourne.
He was drafted to Melbourne with pick 51 in the 2006 rookie draft and was delisted at the end of his first season without playing a senior game.
He then captained the Northern Blues in the Victorian Football League, before joining the AFL rookie umpiring list in 2016. He was upgraded to the senior list for the 2018 season, and made his umpiring debut that year.
In round eight of the 2019 AFL season in a game at the SGC in which Sydeny defeated Essendon by five points, Gianfagna invited controversy on the umpiring fraternity when her refused to award a free-kick to Essendon when Sydney captain Dane Rampe climbed and shook a goal post as Essendon player, David Myers, took an after the siren shot from which he did not score. Though the penalty for shaking the post is a near certain shot on goal from the center of the goal-line, which would have given Essendon a one point win, the non-decision was later backed by the AFL who concluded that by the technical terms of law 17.11 Rampe did not "intentionally" shake the post.
