Anangpal Tomar

Anangpal Tomar was a king of the Tomara dynasty, who ruled over areas of Haryana and Delhi in India. Sources variously say this was in the 8th or the 11th century.
Little is known of Anangpal, who whose ancestors had settled in the Aravalli Hills around the end of the first millennium CE. Some archaeological evidence survives of earlier settlements in the area and may be related to a ruler called Surajpal. Of Anangpal, the primary source for information comes from the Prithviraj Raso, a history of Prithviraj Chauhan which was written much later. Some sources say that physical evidence at Lal Kot, which he is thought to have built and which is the oldest identifiable city in the area, suggests that he lived in the eleventh century but others state that it was the 8th century.
Later writings describe Anangpal Tomar as a Rajput, but the term "Rajput" did not exist during his lifetime. Other communities such as Gurjars and Jats have also claimed Anangpal as one of their own.
