American Academy of Craniofacial Pain
American Academy of Craniofacial Pain is the largest association of dentists and others with an interest in temporomandibular disorders, craniofacial pain, and dental sleep medicine.
It was started in 1985 by a group of founders who desired to promote clinical skills as well as education in this field. It provides a summer conference in the United States and many times a winter conference as well. Being a 501c3 organization, it promotes the educational needs of dentists. These dentists are able to achieve the Fellowship award by meeting certain requirements as listed on their website at aacfp.org. In the past it also offered the achievement awards of Distinguished Fellow and Master of Excellence. The AACP also serves as an educational arm of two credentialing 501c6 organizations: the American Board of Craniofacial Pain and the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine. The AACP offers two mini-residency programs, one in craniofacial pain, and one in sleep dentistry. It also offers other advertised courses which may be found on its website. It has two international branches: Canadian and Australian.
It is overseen by a board of directors and executive committee and is based in Reston, Virginia.
