Alternate Prime Minister of Israel


The Alternate Prime Minister, is the cabinet minister designated to replace the prime minister in a rotation government. The position was created to resolve the 2019–20 Israeli political crisis. According to the, the government swearing-in includes a target date for the prime minister and alternate prime minister to switch their posts. Government ministers report either to the prime minister or the alternate prime minister, with the prime minister being unable to dismiss cabinet ministers reporting to the alternate prime minister without the alternate prime minister's consent.
The current and inaugural alternate prime minister is Benny Gantz. Under the terms of the coalition agreement, he will assume the post of prime minister on 17 November 2021.
