Alperen Şengün


Alperen Şengün is a Turkish professional basketball player for Teksüt Bandırma of Turkish Basketball League.

Early life

Alperen Şengün was born in Giresun, northeastern Turkey on 25 July 2002. His parents wanted that he starts swimming sport. However, he liked basketball as he watched his older brother training basketball. At his age of eight, he started playing basketball. He performed both sports at the same time. Due to timing problems, he had to choose one of them. He decided to continue with basketball.

Sports career

Giresun University (2012–2014)

He entered the youth team of the sports club of Giresun University, where he played until 2014.

Banvit (2014–present)

After his discovery by coach Ahmet Gürgen during a youth sports festival, he moved from Giresun to Bandırma to join the youth team of Teksüt Bandırma, also called as Banvit. By August 2014, he signed with Banvit.
He plays in the Turkish Basketball Juniors League, and currently plays in the Basketball League. The team became champion of the Basketball Junior League, which was established in 2017, in the 2018–19 season. Şengün was named MVP.

International

Şengün took part at the 2018 FIBA U16 European Championship held in
Novi Sad, Serbia. The Turkey U16 team finished the competition winning the bronze medal. Şengün was selected to the All-Tournament Team. He was part of the Turkey U17 team, which ranked fifth at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup in Argentina. He played at the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championship for the Turkey U18 team, which won the silver medal. He was listed in the All-Tournament Team as the only Turkish player.
