Alley of Angels in Donetsk


The Alley of Angels in Donetsk, Ukraine is a memorial for children of Donbass killed during the War in Donbass. By the entrance there is an arch made of forged roses interwoven with machine gun casings, a symbol of war, and doves, a symbol of peace. Under the arch there is a granite slab with the names and ages of the killed children. The youngest ones are one year old.
A plaque with the inscription "Alley of Angels" was installed on May 5, 2015, and memorial was unveiled on May 5, 2015. By that date, according to the self-proclaimed DPR children's ombudsman Yana Chepikova, 57 children were killed. The arch and the name plaque were installed in August 2015. In 2018 the UNICEF Ukraine reported on Twitter that over 140 children were killed or injured by mines during the war. The website 101life.net keeps track of the confirmed cases of the killed children.
On June 1, 2017 a monument to children of Donbass was installed by the Alley. It was created by Russian sculptor Denis Seleznev. The prototype of the monument was Kirill Sidoryuk, who was killed while protecting his sister from shelling with his body.
