Aline Friess


Aline Friess is a French artistic gymnast. She is part of the French team at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Career

Aline Friess began competing in the year 2009. Her coaches are Eric and Monique Hagard.

2018

Friess started out the season competing at the French Championships. She competed on just three events, Vault, Uneven Bars, and Floor. In July, she was a part of the French team that competed at the Pieve di Soligo Friendly in Italy. She finished 16th overall individually, while the French team placed 2nd. Aline Friess was chosen as the alternate for the 2018 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships. After teammate Julia Forestier had to withdraw due to an injury, Friess was put on the team. She participated in qualifications and the team final on uneven bars with a score of 12.900 and balance beam with a score of 10.933, helping the team to a 5th-place finish. In November, she competed at Elite Gym Massilia where she finished 12th in the all-around and qualified for the Vault and Balance Beam Finals. She finished 4th on Vault and earned a Bronze medal on Balance Beam.

2019

Aline Friess was selected to participate in the 2019 European Games alongside Lorette Charpy and Carolann Heduit. She qualified to the all-around final in 11th place, with a score of 14.800 on Vault, 12.166 on Uneven Bars, 12.200 on Balance Beam, and 12.366 on Floor Exercise. Her 14.800 on Vault in Qualifications was the highest vault score and highest individual score on any event out of all 34 competitors. She finished 4th in the all-around final, just less than a tenth away from making the podium with a score of 52.699. She also had the highest vault score and highest individual score on any event in the all-around final out of all 18 competitors with a score of 14.800.
Friess was named to the 2019 Worlds Artistic Gymnastics Championships French team alongside Marine Boyer, Lorette Charpy, Melanie de Jesus dos Santos, and Claire Pontlevoy. On October 4, 2019, she competed in team qualifications on all four events, earning 15.000 on vault, 13.566 on uneven bars, 12.700 on balance beam, and 12.733 on floor exercise, totaling a 53.799 all around. On October 8, 2019, Aline Friess competed in the Team Final, helping France to a 5th-place team finish with her scores of 14.900 on Vault and 13.300 on Floor. Aline's 14.900 was the 3rd highest score out of all vault competitors, with American gymnasts, Simone Biles and Jade Carey being the only competitors scoring higher than her. On October 11th, Friess competed in the All-Around final at World Championships. She scored 14.966 on Vault, 13.600 on Bars, 13.066 on Beam, and 13.166 on Floor for an all around total of 54.798. This earned her 11th overall and becomes her highest all-around score of her senior and junior career. Her 14.966 on Vault was the 2nd-highest score on the event, being outscored only by American gymnast, Simone Biles.

2020

In late January it was announced that Friess would compete at the Stuttgart World Cup taking place in March. The Stuttgart World Cup was later canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic in Germany.
