Alex Newport


Alex Newport is an English record producer, mixer, songwriter, and composer, based in Los Angeles.

Biography

Newport was born in Wolverhampton, UK in 1970 and grew up in the Midlands area.
He is currently living in Los Angeles and is the owner of Future Shock recording studio.
Newport was the founding member of UK grunge band Fudge Tunnel and the industrial project Nailbomb.
After producing records for At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta, in addition to projects with Knapsack, Samiam and Death Cab For Cutie Newport became a highly in-demand producer.
His work with Death Cab for Cutie was Grammy nominated and in 2011 he commenced an ongoing relationship with the Juno
Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green, AKA City And Colour. In February 2011, Newport produced
City And Colour’s "Little Hell" which was recorded and mixed entirely on analog tape.
It was followed in 2013 with "The Hurry and the Harm" – the second consecutive album to reach #1 on the Canadian
charts and a top 20 Billboard US album.
He also mixed and played bass on the album for the collaborative project between City and Colour and Pink called You+Me as well as the
mixing for The Foo Fighters Nate Mendel's new project Lieutenant.
In 2013 Alex produced Bloc Party’s critically acclaimed top five UK album "FOUR". It was a return to form for the band
with a more guitar oriented sound reminiscent of their debut "Silent Alarm".
Other notable productions include work with The Sounds, Frank Turner, The Mountain Goats, Two Gallants and Tokyo's Polysics, mixing for Toronto band Weaves, and producing & mixing the debut album for Brighton, UK faves Tigercub, as well as producing & mixing LA's Bleached and Moaning's Sub Pop debut.
In 2019, Alex mixed produced & mixed the debut album for Toronto's Drew Thomson Foundation, Moaning's second full-length for Sub Pop, and the new album from Matt Costa for Dangerbird Records.
Alex also sings and performs as one half of Red Love, with Matt Tong – their debut album was released in Feb 2017.
Alex composed & performed the original music score for the sci-fi movie "Interpreters" which was released in May 2020.
