Ajay Dutt


Ajay Dutt is an Indian politician who is a member of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party and represents Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Constituency. He holds an MBA degree and was a partner in an IT services company before joining politics.

Early life and education

Ajay Dutt was born in Ambedkar Nagar, Delhi in 1975. He had a difficult childhood due to family conditions. His father was physically challenged and his mother was the only earning member in the family. Dutt took up odd jobs to support his family. Even as a school student, he worked as a Lightman in weddings and learned photography to meet his expense in studies. Dutt went on to study in Delhi University and graduated in the year 1996. Soon after college he wanted to prepare for civil services exam but due to situation in the family he had to take up job. He also attained a Master of Business Administration degree from Amity University, Noida and excelled in IT services business.

Professional career

Dutt partnered in starting his own IT services firm. He was an IT industry expert with several of his interviews appearing in IT services and technology magazines like and other popular Indian dailies like Times of India and The Economic Times He has been to several countries and represented India in some of the international Summits. He was part of the Indian delegation of Peace ambassadors attending global peace summit at Seoul, South Korea organised by Universal PeaceFederation in February 2019. He was also selected in the team of 19 from 9 political parties of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal who attended the seminar for cadres of political parties from South Asian Countries organised by . He has also volunteered with NGOs where he used to serve visually impaired and used to work in old age homes as a service. He is a nature lover and loves to serve the human and animal community.
Ajay Dutt has been a supporter of Anna Hazare movement from its very early days. He eventually joined Aam Aadmi Party to bring systemic changes in bureaucratic system and politics. He was at the head of business and operations when he finally decided to join AAP.

Political career

Even before joining politics during his graduation years, Ajay Dutt contested and won in union elections and held the post of Vice president. After joining AAP, Ajay Dutt campaigned in Ambedkar Nagar for the party nominee in 2013 Delhi Assembly election. In 2014 Lok Sabha election he also managed the North Bangalore Lok Sabha constituency for the party which he has expressed to be a learning curve before making an entry into formal politics. Following this Mr Dutt returned to Delhi and his home constituency Dr. Ambedkar Nagar after 16 years. In early 2015 when fresh elections were announced AAP fielded Ajay Dutt who has been an AAP volunteer in Ambedkar Nagar. Ajay Dutt won over his predecessor by a margin of 42460 votes. Ever since then he has been representing Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Constituency and carrying out various development activities in this constituency. In an online survey conducted by www.mlareportcard.com in 2015 MLA Ajay Dutt got the highest score 4.75 out of 5 to become the most popular MLA amongst all MLAs of Delhi Legislative Assembly. He is considered to be one of the most accessible MLAs in Delhi. In a comprehensive survey conducted by Ajay Dutt won the title "Mr Popular" in the year 2016. This was based on his performance on parameters such as accessibility and delivery of Public Service for the year 2016. In 2018 he was ranked 2 amongst all MLAs perceived to be least corrupt and was also in the list of Top 5 MLAs in terms of overall performance. Post becoming MLA Ajay Dutt has also held important positions in various committees of Delhi government, Delhi Legislative assembly and also in governmental bodies of South Delhi district. Shri Ajay Dutt continues to be in news in developments that took place in 5-year term of the government.
In 2019, Ajay Dutt tore off his shirt in Delhi Assembly as a protest against Ravidas temple demolition by DDA. He also claimed that if DDA gives four-five acres of land for the Ravidas temple to the community, he will give 100 acres of land to the Centre.
In 2020 elections held for Delhi legislative assembly, Aam Aadmi Party, led by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal won 62 seats to claim an absolute majority in the elections. From Dr Ambedkar Nagar Constituency Ajay Dutt got re-elected by securing 62,871 votes.

Posts held

Ajay Dutt is the member of Flood Control Committee to recommend, supervise and co-ordinate flood control measures in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. He was also the former chairman of District Development Committee of South Delhi. Apart from that he is holding important positions including being chairman of some of the committees constituted by the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
