The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi is a private, co-educational school situated in the Parklands neighborhood of Nairobi, Kenya.Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi is a private international school registered with the ministry of education, Kenya. It is a not-for-profit school established in 1970 and is located in the Parklands suburbs of Nairobi.
Aga Khan Academy is a multi-cultural school with over 1000 students from all parts of the world, with different ethnicity and cultural beliefs and backgrounds. Aga Khan Academy considers itself to be an international school because of its curriculum that offers the international baccalaureate also known as inquiry-based teaching with authorisation to provide Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme after completion of the IGCSE certification. It branches off into 3 different schools which include; the nursery school, the junior school and the senior school. The education structure of the academy provides a better understanding of what the schools have to offer to the students in both their personal and academic life.

Primary Years Programme is designed for students between 3 to 12 years of age which is the nursery and junior section of the academy. The PYP is guided by six transdisciplinary themes that are knowledge and skills across and beyond subject areas. “PYP tests students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global.
This programme for seniors at the academy aged 12 to 16 years is a five-year programme designed to encourage students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. students who complete this programme are prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme. Inclusive by design, students of all interests and academic abilities. Subject groups providing a broad education for early adolescents.
Aga khan academy through the International Baccalaureate provides several STEM-related resources for educators in the MYP. The curriculum focuses on STEM as a perspective from which to consider integrated teaching and learning in concepts and skills related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics about the STEM education.
Diploma Programme.
For students aged 16 to 19 years, this diploma programme aims to develop students who have a great breadth and depth of knowledge. The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core comprising theory of knowledge creativity, activity, service and the extended essay. It is made up of 3 required components, whose aim is to broaden students educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

Community services weaves through the curriculum in the form of ‘action’ and through deliberate planning of supporting local community causes such as the Globe Cop Initiative. Each year students in the junior school participate in various events displaying their skills and talents within the Arts: visual arts, drama and music.
The senior school offers a diverse range of sports as well as a student leadership programme. This programme is a structured design to develop leadership competence in their senior year. This challenges students to think about leadership, leadership styles and incompetence. It teaches the students emotional intelligence, communication skills, persuasion and influence, working from an ethical perspective, building teams and leadership capacity.

Operations

The school is a not-for-profit independent school registered with the Ministry of Education, Kenya. It has approximately 400 students and more than 50 graduate staff.
The school offers an international curriculum leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education administered by the University of Cambridge, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme established by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
