Achille Varzi (philosopher) Achille C. Varzi is an Italian-born philosopher . He graduated at University of Trento and received a master's and doctoral degree at the University of Toronto . He teaches at Columbia University , where he has been a member of the philosophy faculty since 1995.philosophical logic and metaphysics . His first book, Holes and Other Superficialities , was an exploration of the realist ontology of common sense and naive physics . His more recent work is inspired by a nominalist-conventionalist stance.editor of The Journal of Philosophy and an advisory editor of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy .
