Abd al-Rahman ibn Aqeel


Abd al-Rahman ibn Aqeel was one of Hussain ibn Ali's companions; he was killed in the battle of Karbala; and is regarded/named among the martyrs of Karbala. His father was Aqeel ibn Abi Talib, and his mother was a slave women. Meanwhile Abd al-Rahman was one of Ali ibn Abi Talib's son-in-law, and his wife was Khadija.
Abd al-Rahman entered the battlefield at the army of Hussain on the day of Ashura, and recited the following Rajaz :
"My father is Aqeel, you know my position; I am from the descendant of Hashim, and Hashim is my brother."
Abdul Rahman, at the Battle of Karbala killed 17 cavalries from the army of Omar Sa'd, and finally was killed by Othman ibn Khalid ibn Rashim. There seems to be insufficient information about the date and the age of Abd al-Rahman ibn Aqeel, but the according to the author of Labab al-Ansab, he was at the age of 35 when he was killed. Additionally, his name has been mentioned in Ziyarat Nahiya Muqaddasa and likewe Ziyarat Rajabiya.
