Abbey Greyhound Stadium

The Abbey Greyhound Stadium was a planned new stadium which was expected to be completed in 2017, it was to become the new home for Swindon's greyhound racing and Elite League team, the Swindon Robins. The plans for redevelopment were first released on 13 June 2007. The stadium plans were said to be 'state of the art'. The owners, Gaming International, were granted outline planning permission in 2008 to build houses on part of the site. After several revisions, outline permission was again granted in 2015, for up to 100 houses and a care home.

Current situation

Following a significant delay the revised project was due to get underway in January 2018. During 2019 the original plans to re-position the stadium and track were scrapped and the track was reduced in circumference from 463 metres by creating two new bends inside the old circumference making way for housing. The track, therefore, remained in its original position. The stadium remains as Swindon Stadium and the alleged prefabricated buildings that have been built to replace the existing buildings are still to be moved on site. The local council have refused any further housing additions until progress is made with replacing the existing buildings.
