A. K. M. Nurul Islam


A. K. M. Nurul Islam was a Bangladeshi politician and Vice President of Bangladesh.

Career

Nurul was a High Court judge from 1967 to 1971. From 17 February 1985 to 12 August 1989, he was the law minister of Bangladesh. He was the chief election commissioner of Bangladesh Election Commission. He was made the vice president on December 1986 under President Ershad.

Personal life

His wife was Ekushey Padak-winning poet Jahanara Arzu. They had four children, daughter Professor Marina Jahan, daughter Lubna Jahan, son Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam, and son Engr. Mohammad Zahinul Islam.

Death

He died on 14 November 2015 in Dhaka. He was buried in Harirampur in Manikganj, Dhaka Division.
