88th Illinois Infantry Regiment


The 88th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, nicknamed the Second Chicago Board of Trade Regiment, was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Service

The 88th Illinois Infantry was organized at Camp Douglas, in Chicago, and mustered into Federal service on September 4, 1862.
The regiment was mustered out on June 9, 1865, and discharged at Chicago, Illinois, on June 22, 1865.

Total strength and casualties

The regiment suffered 5 officers and 98 enlisted men who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 4 officers and 84 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 191 fatalities.
