2020 Sabah state election

The 2020 Sabah state election will take place before September 2020. This election was to elect 73 members of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly. The previous Assembly was dissolved on 30 July 2020.
The snap election was called after a political crisis arose. Both Shafie Apdal, leader of the Pakatan Harapan and Sabah Heritage Party coalition government and Musa Aman, the leader of the Perikatan Nasional opposition claim to have the majority to form the government. However, the Governor of Sabah, Juhar Mahiruddin made the decision to dissolve the state assembly.
The snap election will be conducted under the special standard operating procedure imposed by the Electoral Commission due to the New Normal as the country is still observing the recovery phase of Movement Control Order for the COVID-19 pandemic.
