was the defending champion but lost to world No. 2 Novak Djokovic 7–5, 6–4 in the final. It was the second win for Djokovic on an ATP Master 1000 Tournament played on clay courts, the 6th title of the year and 24th of his career. It was his third Masters title this year, and his eighth overall by extending a winning streak of 34 matches.
