2008 Australian Open – Women's Singles


defeated Ana Ivanovic 7–5, 6–3, in the final to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 2008 Australian Open, without losing a set the entire tournament, or facing a tiebreak in any set throughout the tournament. This was her third Grand Slam singles title and her first and only Australian Open. She was also the first Russian woman to win this tournament. Ivanovic lost in a Grand Slam final for the second time, though she would eventually win the French Open a few months later.
Serena Williams was the defending champion, but was defeated in the quarterfinals by Jelena Janković.
This was the first Australian Open appearance for future 2018 champion Caroline Wozniacki, she lost to eventual finalist Ivanovic in the fourth round.
