2003 US Open – Women's Singles


was the champion defeating compatriot Kim Clijsters in the final, 7–5, 6–1 to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 2003 US Open. Henin-Hardenne dropped only one set in the whole tournament, to Jennifer Capriati in the semifinals.
Serena Williams was the defending champion, but did not participate this year due to injury. Defending finalist and her sister Venus Williams also withdrew before the tournament began due to injury. Their withdrawals from the tournament marked the first time in the Open Era that neither of previous year's finalists played at the US Open.
This was also the first US Open appearance of future champion Flavia Pennetta in the main draw, she lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round.
