2002 US Open – Women's Singles


World No. 1 Serena Williams defeated the two-time defending champion, Venus Williams, 6-4, 6-3, to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 2002 US Open. This was rematch of the previous year's final, was Serena Williams third consecutive Grand Slam title, and second consecutive without losing a set.
Four-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Arantxa Sánchez Vicario made her final Grand Slam appearance, losing to French qualifier Marion Bartoli in the first round. Future World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam finalist Dinara Safina made her first Grand Slam appearance. She lost in the second round to Serena Williams.
