The 2002–03 season was Gateshead's fifth consecutive season in the Northern Premier League Premier Division since relegation from the Football Conference in 1998, and their 15th season in total since their reformation in 1977.
Gateshead ended the season in 21st position and were relegated after defeat to Chorley in a play-off.
The final four home games of the season were played at South Shields's Filtrona Park while a new athletics track was installed at Gateshead International Stadium.
