1999 US Open – Women's Singles


defeated world No. 1 Martina Hingis in the final, 6–3, 7–6, to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 1999 US Open. This was Williams' first Grand Slam singles title, and she became the first African American woman to win a Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era.
Lindsay Davenport was the defending champion, but lost to Serena Williams in the semifinals.
