1998 Australian Open – Women's Singles


First-seeded Martina Hingis was the defending champion, and she successfully defended her title by defeating Conchita Martínez, 6–3, 6–3 in the final to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 1998 Australian Open.
This was the first Grand Slam tournament in which Serena Williams competed in the main draw. She drew her older sister Venus in the second round, and was defeated.
