1996 French Open – Men's Singles


defeated Michael Stich 7–6, 7–5, 7–6 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1996 French Open. Thomas Muster was the defending champion but lost in the fourth round to Michael Stich. Kalefnikov is the latest player to have won singles and doubles titles in the same Grand Slam tournament.
Pete Sampras reaching the semi-finals, made his best ever showing at Roland Garros. Future champion and world No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten made his first appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam event, losing to Wayne Ferreira in the first round. Three-time champion Mats Wilander made his final Grand Slam tournament appearance, losing to Todd Martin in the second round.
