1993 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament

The 1993 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament involved 12 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college ice hockey. It began on March 26, 1993, and ended with the championship game on April 3. A total of 11 games were played.
The championship game was remembered for a controversial ending after Maine took a 5-4 lead late in the 3rd period. Lake Superior State appeared to have tied the game by scoring with 50 seconds remaining from a shot by Lakers forward Sean Tallaire, who then started to celebrate. There was no stoppage of play by an official however and no goal was awarded. The NCAA had not instituted video reviews or replays at the time, so the play was never looked into and the score remained final. Despite leaked game footage later that year and the controversies following Maine's program for multiple infractions such as accepting supplemental income from boosters and playing ineligible players, the university was not forced to vacate the 1993 title. The NCAA however did later send Lake Superior State a 1993 National Champion Commemorative Award plaque given the circumstances.

Qualifying teams

The at-large bids and seeding for each team in the tournament were announced after the conference tournaments concluded. The Western Collegiate Hockey Association had four teams receive a berth, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and the ECAC each had three teams receive a berth in the tournament while the Hockey East had two berths.
