Mersin İdmanyurdu Sports Club; located in Mersin, east Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 1986–87. Mersin İdmanyurdu S.K. football team participated in Turkish Second Football League in 1986-87 season.

1986–87 Second League participation

took place in Group B in Second League 1986–87 Season. League played in three groups two with 18 teams and one with 17. Bottom three teams in Group A with 17 teams and bottom four teams in groups with 18 teams relegated to Third League, whereas top teams promoted to First League at the end of the season. MİY finished 11th with 9 wins and 27 goals.
MİY has played first half-season games at away grounds, due to maintenance works at Tevfik Sırrı Gür Stadium.

1986–87 Turkish Cup participation

was played for the 25th season as Federasyon Kupası by 237 teams. First four elimination rounds were played in one-leg elimination system. If the result was a deuce extra time and penalty-shoot-out were used to determine the team to be promoted. Fifth and sixth rounds and finals were played in two-legs elimination system, and extra time and penalty-shoot-out were used to determine tie-break. Mersin İdmanyurdu participated in 1986–87 Turkish Cup and was eliminated at round 1 by Tarsus İdmanyurdu Erkutspor. Tarsus İY Erkutspor was eliminated at round 2. Gençlerbirliği won the Cup for the first time and was qualified for 1987–88 European Cup Winners' Cup.
