- Valerius Cordus' pharmacopoeia Dispensatorium published posthumously in Nuremberg.
- Girolamo Fracastoro, in his De Contagione et Contagiosis Morbis, discusses the transmission of infectious diseases and gives the first description of typhus.
- Giovanni Filippo Ingrassia describes the stapes bone of the middle ear.
